De mis manos a tus manos (From my hands to yours)

In 2012 Suhab was invited to collaborate with a Finnish NGO to develop a project identifying needs of Nicaraguan artisans in the northern region of the country Through a series of visits to the region we meet with 12 groups of artisans handcrafting a varied range of products and using different materials like paper, clay, bamboo and wood among others. We did an extensive previous research around the culture and history of each group and the general context they all share as a post-conflict country. During our visits we did in depth interviews to various stakeholders including government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

As a result, Suhab crafted a proposal for an Arts and Crafts Center (Centro de Artes y Oficios de Estelí) to ignite co-creation process where they learn and at the same time they share their knowledge creating a stronger network of artisans. The main idea is to eliminate middlemen practices empowering these communities through learning and collaboration. From ideation of functional products to marketing and development of new distributions channels they build sustainable business models to strengthen local economies.
